Infant Program: 6 weeks to 18 months

Our infant program is designed to support the development of infants by allowing them to establish trusting relationships with their caregivers, explore their surroundings, and learn through using their 5 senses. We provide a calm, loving, and warm environment with materials that encourage infants to develop at their own pace. We have 4 infant slots and employ two infant teachers, so the majority of the day is spent in a 1:2 teacher to child ratio.

Our teachers spend their days singing, dancing, reading, and playing with the infants. They do not rush essential parts of the day such as feedings and changings. Instead, they spend this time bonding with each individual child. When the weather permits, infants will spend time on our safe and developmentally appropriate playground. The teachers also bring them on walks and stroller rides around the beautiful grounds at NCCCC, which include several gardens, a pond, and a view of our playgrounds.

Each infant follows their own sleeping, eating, and diapering schedule. When parents and teachers decide the child is developmentally ready, they will begin following elements of the Toddler Room schedule to ease the transition. Based on the child’s readiness and the program’s availability, children can move to the Toddler Room between 14 and 18 months.
